Over the past decade, Belarusian educational migration has undergone a profound transformation. While Russia was the main destination for Belarusian students abroad in 2013, today Poland has become the leading educational hub, and the share of EU countries continues to grow.

This study by the Institute for Political Studies “Political Sphere” analyses the dynamics of Belarusian student migration across 37 countries between 2013 and 2025. The authors examine how the number of Belarusian students abroad has changed, which countries have become the most attractive destinations, and how the political crisis of 2020, Russia’s war against Ukraine, Belarus’s growing isolation, and the transformation of the education system have influenced students’ choices.

Special attention is given to Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Germany, and the Czech Republic — the five countries that currently host more than 90% of Belarusian students abroad.
